What would it have been like building Riccarton Cottage?
How did the family shape/change Christchurch?
What was Christchurch like when they arrived? (1842)
Our Findings:
The Deans family came to Christchurch to be farmers. Back in England they were laywers but they wanted to be farmers for a long time and there was no place for farming in England. When the family came to Canterbury they built Riccarton Cottage. They went through a lot of hard times building it, especially Jane Deans whos husband, John Deans, died in her arms before they had finished building. The family changed Christchurch a lot. They made it a popular place for farming and contributed to getting other English farmers to settle there. Christchurch has long been known as the garden city and The Deans family also contributed a lot to this. Later on they built Riccarton house.
An Idea for our Final Product We would like to make a glogster for our final product. We were thinking of making a powerpoint but we found out about glogster and thought it would be a good idea. We have both been on glogster and we think it would be good to make some. Contents:
